“Unity Is Law” — 8th HESA President Signs Landmark Unity Bill into Student Law

HESA, under President Samuel Tampanga Wepeah, has enacted the groundbreaking Unity Law—making unity a legal mandate and cornerstone of health student governance.

In a defining moment for student governance, the Health Students’ Association (HESA) has officially adopted one of its most transformative policies to date — the Unity Law, a sweeping regulation aimed at institutionalizing harmony and cohesion among all health students.

At the center of this historic development is the 8th HESA President, H.E. Samuel Tampanga Wepeah, who has now signed the Unity Bill into binding student law, cementing unity not just as a guiding value, but as an enforceable obligation.

“The foundation of HESA is and will always be UNITY,” the newly enacted legislation declares. With the signing of the Unity Bill, this ideal now holds the force of law — embedded at every level of HESA’s operations and leadership structure.

President Wepeah’s administration championed the bill as both a response to past divisions and a visionary framework for future governance. “One HESA. One Voice. One Future.” is no longer just a slogan — it is now a legislative cornerstone of the Association.

The new law introduces several key mandates:

 • Mandatory Unity Mantra: Each incoming administration must adopt and promote a unity-themed mantra (e.g., #UnifiedHESA) in conjunction with their official slogan. Unity is now an essential part of the HESA brand.

 • Unity in Campaigns: All campaign messages must actively reflect unity and inclusiveness. Any divisive language or conduct will lead to immediate disqualification, as determined by the Judicial Chairperson, with final appeals handled by the Provost.

 • Penalties for Disunity: Elected officials found promoting disunity—through actions, speech, or suggestive messaging—will face removal from office and may be subject to public fines.

 • Strict Transparency: All disciplinary actions under the Unity Law must be publicly announced, reinforcing accountability and discouraging future violations.

With the Unity Law now signed and in effect, President Wepeah is being widely recognized for steering HESA into a new era of solidarity and disciplined leadership. His supporters hail the move as a visionary step toward a stronger, more united student body.

Critics, however, continue to voice concerns about the law’s potential impact on freedom of expression, particularly during campaign seasons. Some warn that strict enforcement could suppress legitimate dissent or alternative viewpoints.

Yet, regardless of differing opinions, the passage of the Unity Law marks a turning point in HESA’s evolution — one that enshrines unity not just as a hope, but as a binding standard.

Unity is no longer an option. It is law.
